Narrative

Joseph "Joe" John Cerrato, 73, of Greendale Dr., Suffield, formerly of Elm Meadows, Enfield, a well known and avid golfer in the Enfield community, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was the loving husband of Joan (Keller) Cerrato, whom he married on June 26, 1954.

Born in Enfield, a son of the late Mary (Porcello) and Joseph J. Cerrato Sr. He was a lifetime resident of the community having just recently moved to Suffield. Joe had been employed with Sears for 22 years. A popular figure on the area golf courses, he was known as one of the best golfers in Enfield. Joe was not only a "scratch" golfer, but was also a fun partner to have in your foursome. He was always willing to share his knowledge of the game, and especially enjoyed providing golf instructions to the novice or the experienced golfer. Joe was a member of the Class of '53 at Enfield High School, where he demonstrated his all- around athletic ability as a participant on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Enfield and an honorary member of the Rinaldi-Fede Italian American Veterans Post 17.

In addition to Joan, his devoted wife of 53 years, Joe is survived by two sons and a daughter, Michael Cerrato and his wife, Wendy, of East Windsor, Karen Thompson of Enfield, and Robert Cerrato and his wife, Betty, of Enfield; eight grandchildren, Miranda and her husband, Nicholas, Pamela, Debra, Melonie, Heather, Matthew, Jeffrey, and Jonathan; five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Nicholas, Michaela, Angelee, and Joseph; a brother, John "Jack" Cerrato and his wife, Joanne, of Suffield. He also leaves his card-playing friends at the Rinaldi-Fede Post and his special friends Bob Linn, Pat Tallarita, Dick Michaels, and the spirit of the late Tom Zarcaro.

Friends and relatives may gather at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. on Saturday, May 24, at 10 a.m. for a procession to St. Patrick Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick King Street Cemetery.

Joe's family will receive relatives and friends at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels today from 5 to 8 p.m.
